About the Exhibition:
Gukzik Lau is an international acclaimed Hong Kong artist. After Gukzik’s successful exhibition “Ten suggestions on improving our lives” in Macau, she is going to hold a solo exhibition in Hong Kong at HAJI Gallery. Focusing on “We eat, What Exactly are we eating”, Gukzik hopes to create a visual experience of food. It’s is an art of introspection about food and eating culture. Gukzik Lau’s works can be found in numerous private and public collections, including Hong Kong Fringe Club, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices in Washington and San Francisco.
About Gukzik Lau, the Artist:
Gukzik Lau graduated from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto in 1976. In 1988, she received a bursary from the British Council to pursue further studies at the Royal College of Art in London where she obtained a Master’s degree with distinction in 1990. Lau’s early artistic interest was in traditional printmaking. She later employed modern printing machines and materials such as offset machine, photocopier, fax machine and digital output to create her works. Her recent interest is in writing, which connotes both literary writings and calligraphy, so the juxtaposition of words and images is her new attempt in art. Lau describes herself as a “painting writer” rather than a printmaking artist. Her works can be found in numerous private and public collections, including Hong Kong Fringe Club, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices in Washington and San Francisco.
