Name of Organisation: Hong Kong Eating Disorders Association (HEDA)
Details: Hong Kong Eating Disorders Association(HEDA) is a charitable organization set up by a group of parents, patients and their family members, and concerned individuals in October of 1999. In 2000, HEDA was incorporated as a limited company and registered in Hong Kong as a tax exempted charity (IR File No. 91/6030). HEDA has a professional advisory team of psychiatrists, family doctors, psychologists, social workers and dietitians. Their services include dietetic and psychological treatment, preventation and education, patience support and information hotline to achieve four missions as follows:-
- To promote public awareness and knowledge of eating disorders, particularly amongst adolescents and front-line professionals.
- To promote and facilitate the spirit of mutual help and self-help among patients, their caregivers and family members.
- To assist patients, their caregivers and family members seek appropriate treatments to alleviate the distress and dysfunctional consequences brought about by the illness.
- To advocate and lobby the government and relevant organizations for improvements in the services, facilities and policies regarding the treatment of this long-neglected illness.
