Abstract:
Dr Henry Fok Ying-tung (10 May 1923 – 28 October 2006), GBM, was a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist in Hong Kong. Fok was the vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of PRC since March 1993.
Dr Fok was one of the earliest Overseas Chinese who supported and participated in China’s Reform and Opening. He had a vision for a developed and modern China. With this foresight, Dr Fok devoted efforts in modernizing China and contributed generously to the development of Inland China. The Fok Ying Tung Foundation was set up in 1977 for this very purpose. Over the past 25 years, Dr Fok, through his Foundation, donated more than HK$6 billion, in support of various development programs in China, particularly in education, health care, sports, science and culture, and other areas of need.
In 1986, Dr Fok co-op with Ministry of Education of the PRC witha donation of 1 billion Hongkong dollar and established the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation for education development. Till 2009, the Foundation has sponsored 2,944 young teachers with the fund around 216 million US dollars.
