[Hong Kong, 28 April 2014]
Go.Asia will join Jamie Oliver and more than 1,000 ambassadors across the world as they celebrate the third annual Food Revolution Day on 16 May.
Food Revolution Day is an annual day of awareness, launched by chef and campaigner Jamie Oliver in 2012. The aim of the day is to raise the profile of food education as the key to transforming the lives of millions of people across the world. This year, the main focus is to get as many children as possible excited about food and cooking on the day itself, which in turn will inspire others to do the same.
More than 90 countries across the world have Food Revolution ambassadors who are currently planning events, both big and small, in support of better food education.
In Hong Kong, Beatrice, chief of Go.Asia, has been leading the Food Revolution for three consecutive years and is already planning series of activities, including cooking classes and demos, restaurant promotions, recipe sharing, Food Education events and more.
Beatrice says: “It is my great honour to be the Food Revolution ambassador to drive food education and healthy diet in Hong Kong. For the first two years, our focus is to spread the word and make HongKongers aware of this important global movement. This year, with inspiration and encouragement from Jamie Oliver and the Food Revolution team, we have started our very own Food Education programme in Hong Kong and will be collaborating with 70 schools to provide free and quality food education to the younger generations.”
Jamie Oliver added: “I’m so grateful to Beatrice for her hard work in making Food Revolution Day such a success. This year we’re focusing on kids and getting them into cooking from an early age so we’ve got lots going on in schools. Nevertheless, every Food Revolution Day event is important so I hope Beatrice gets loads of local support.”
Food Revolution Day is a joint campaign, organised by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation in the UK and USA, as well as partners, The Good Foundation, in Australia. The Food Revolution Ambassador Programme was launched in 2012, following the first Food Revolution Day, to inspire and empower volunteers everywhere to stand up for real food. Voluntary ambassadors are on the ground working towards a food revolution and they’re the ones who will make Food Revolution Day 2014 another fantastic occasion.
Food Revolution Day and the Ambassador Programme aim to engage leaders throughout the year and to reach communities worldwide, bringing together an international community of foodies, chefs, parents, educators, companies and activists, while arming people with the knowledge and tools to make healthier food choices.
To encourage and inspire as many people as possible to cook on Food Revolution Day 2014, there are a bunch of recipes in Chinese that you can download from http://www.frd.asia, download one of the recipes, mark Friday 16 May in your diary and get cooking on the big day. Just remember to share your foodie pictures via social media: #FRD2014
In addition, Jamie will be giving the biggest-ever live cooking lesson and he wants as many people as possible to get involved. You’ll learn to make his tasty, nutritious rainbow salad wrap, written especially so that both kids and grown-ups can take part.
