· 8 million tonnes of food were wasted by catering industry alone in China every year which is enough to feed 1.3 billion people for a whole year
. In Beijing, food wasted by university students equivalent to 1/3 of their total amount of food purchased. According to 2009 statistic, with 28.6 million university students in China, food wasted by them alone is enough to feed 10million people for a whole year.
· There are 30 waste treatment and disposal facilities in Beijing alone to handle around 18 thousand tonnes waste every day.
