The agriculture sector is underperforming in many developing countries, in part because men and women do not have equal access to the resources and opportunities they need to be productive.
Currently there are over 1.1 billion women farmers do not have equal access to productive resources and services, such as land, water and tools, seeds, education, agricultural training, technologies, legal rights, markets, decision making, credit and participation, which means, there are over 1.1 billion women farmers are not reaching to their full potential.
The world cannot eliminate hunger without closing the gap between men and women in agriculture. With equal access to productive resources and services, women farmers can produce 20 to 30 percent more food, enough to lift 150 million people out of hunger, that’s more than the entire populations of France and UK combined, or the entire populations of Chile, Kenya, Turkey and Malaysia combined.
