Abstract:
Leonardo DiCaprio is an American actor and film producer. Well-known with the movie Titanic (1997), he has been nominated for the Golden Globe Award eight times as an actor, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Aviator (2004).
A committed environmentalist, DiCaprio has received praise from environmental groups for his activism. Together with his family, DiCaprio has established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998. The Foundation supports efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all of its inhabitants.
The Foundation works on a variety of environmental and humanitarian issues including Wildlife Protection, Forest Preservation, Healthy Oceans, Water Access, Renewable Energy, Disaster Relief and Climate Change. In October 2012, DiCaprio joined force with the Avaaz team calling to sign the petition in order to change negotiators’ minds with a massive wave of public pressure and to save the Antarctic Ocean. Leonardo currently serves on the board of the World Wildlife Fund, TheNatural Resources Defense Council, International Fund for Animal Welfare and Global Green USA.
Since 2014, Leonardo has become a UN Messenger of Peace with a special focus on climate change. He gave a speech in Paris Agreement event in 2016 and warned world leaders about how now is the crucial time to take action against climate change.
